EU charges Intel with market abuse
European regulators have filed fresh charges against the world’s biggest computer chip maker Intel over alleged abuse of its dominant market position.
The European Commission (EC) accused the firm of paying a leading European retailer not to stock products containing chips made by rival AMD.
It is also accused of giving incentives to PC makers to switch to Intel chips.
Intel, which has eight weeks to respond to the allegations, said it was disappointed with the EC’s claims.
The Commission has also accused Intel of paying the PC maker to delay the planned launch of a product containing AMD chips.
Some of you may read this and think that the EU is full of communist assholes bent on ruining capitalism. The truth is that companies like Intel or Microsoft that practice anti-competitive business strategies are hurting more than helping.
How could this be? It definitely doesn’t seem that AMD or Intel are having any financial troubles at the moment, right? And it seems that no ones having a hard time getting a hold of the latest CPUs that have been rolling out. Well, if businesses made it their main goal to undermine the competition rather than actually compete with them… you can probably see how that could lead to some nasty stagnation.
