A stroll down internet-memory lane

One of the best and worst things about the internet is that whatever you say or do on it can and will be documented for life. This makes it much easier for someone like me to track down and profile most people without leaving my desk. Even better, though, is our internet born ability to instantly access old and new news articles from any where in the world. You would think with this ability that, as a nation, we’d be much more informed about what’s really going on.

It’s obvious to us these days that the media does not reflect the will and intent of the people. They have, for the most part, left the realm of investigative journalism and devolved into a corporate sponsored frenzy of entertainment and localized news coverage; from informing the masses to profiting off of our ignorance. With things coming to light, such as that the White House providing Fox News with talking points (therefor propagandizing the media,) it’s amazing to me that they continue to keep ratings high enough to stay afloat.

When I think about it, though, it seems reasonable to think that it’s not entirely about profits. If they are so intent on misinforming the people they pretend to work for… could this mean that their real goal is to dumb the masses to a point where its rational ignorance reaches epic levels? If this is true then it would be fair to assume that these so called news organizations wouldn’t exactly let us know that our faith in them is faltering. Think about it this way: If the Revolution started tomorrow do you think it would be covered on the ‘news’? Maybe they’d refer to it as a terrorist act and down play it heavily. The message I mean to convey is that the media does not reflect the views of you or me or most people in our nation. This pattern of misinformation and selective coverage of current events is not a new one nor is it showing signs of dying.

So, we are left to inform ourselves. What better tool for the job than the internet? What worse tool for the job than the internet? True, there is enough shit on these tubes to clog the mind of any one man. Learn to skim past the shit and you could empower yourself with proper information in no time. My main goal for this blog was to create a place where some of my friends could have easy access to (what I think are) important current events without having to drown in a sea of data feces. It’s obvious to me that keeping up with a task like this will be time consuming, but since I already make it a point to try and stay up with world events and especially political happenings it’s not really any extra load for me to handle. If it will help keep even one person better informed then it is, to me, well worth it.

Want to better inform yourself? Don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, it’s pretty damn simple. Remember that google is your friend. For now at least! After I woke up this morning I started thinking about something I had learned a while ago from a documentary. I thought to myself, “There’s no way that I’ll be able to confirm this.” Weary of the outcome I stepped up to the search engine plate and shot off a simple list of keywords.

‘al qaeda cia database’

What was I looking for? Well, this:

Osama bin Laden is no more a true representative of Islam than General Mladic, who commanded the Serbian forces, could be held up as an example of Christianity. After all, it is written in the Qur’an that we were made into different peoples not that we might despise each other, but that we might understand each other.

Bin Laden was, though, a product of a monumental miscalculation by western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Al-Qaida, literally “the database”, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians. Inexplicably, and with disastrous consequences, it never appears to have occurred to Washington that once Russia was out of the way, Bin Laden’s organisation would turn its attention to the west.

We all know that many of the so called terrorists that are shoved into our retinas were trained and put into places of power by our very own CIA. What most people don’t know is that Al-Qaeda is not a terrorist group. They are not a networked system of freedom hating Muslims. The name Al-Qaeda was given by the CIA and it was used to label a database of CIA trained men in the middle east. I don’t know about you.. but I find it hard to believe that a database could become self aware and start a war with our nation.

Well, there you go. This is just one of countless many lies we are continually fed by the media and our government that can be easily dissolved with a little investigative internets. Remember, the media does not show what it does not want you to see. It can’t, however, systematically destroy all the information at your fingertips. That’s in the beta phase. <3
